speaks of the 'safe' bait that contains Iron Phosphate... and the easy one, COFFEE!!!... brewed coffee and the coffee grounds too, are a great deterrent and eradicator!!!....Looking for a way to get rid of slugs from my borders, path, shed and rabbit run?
I pick them up and relocate them to waste ground. Cheap, effective and totally environmentally sound.
Alternatively, these creatures hate to cross fine gravel and sand as it sticks to them.
Don't put salt on them - that is so cruel and disgusting I can't believe anyone would still do that. Besides the salt will wash into your soil and poison it.
Salt kills them but make sure to sweep away the dead slugs in the mornin or ur 2 year old could have an interesting breakfast!!
use gravel or broken egg shells crumbeled up or sand
There is a slug and snail bait that is safe for wildlife, domestic animals and children. It is expensive though, but just as effective as the Grant's toxic formulation. Comes in an aqua blue plastic container and Lowes carries it. It is the Garden Safe Brand and unlike table salt, it won't kill your plants.
There is a product you can get at most garden centers called Slug Bait, by SAFERS. It is completely safe for kids and pets. They are large pellets so they're easy to use. Or you can lay down boards, like a path way ,or copper pipes. the slugs go under the boards, especially during the day. Each day turn them over and brush the slugs into the trash. The copper pipe is used as a defense as they hate the copper so put them in front of where you don't want them. Good Luck.
shake salt on them and your. it two year old will love to help, that what we did when i was a kid
try table salt that would get rid of them
salt works like a charm. its cheap and works very well just sprenkle it around the area and your troubles are over.
use copper wire slugs will not cross
use beer because for some reason slugs like beer and its a better end for them than salt
Find a hedgehogm they are natural slug eaters..... I see salt in many answers but do you want your 2 year old falling over getting salt on his hands and then eating it, and wouldn't want you're bunnies coming into contact with it either. Also be really careful about products that claim to be safe for domestic pets ( i always wondered how they discriminate). I think the taking them to a waste land answer is probably the safest.
Put ordinary table salt on them.
My living room door opens onto the footpath in my garden and at this time of the year it's nice to keep it open in the evenings for a while. However, as soon as it rains out come the slugs and snails and they even come indoors if i'm not quick with the salt. I just sprinkle a line of table salt a few inches from the door and they stay out.
Good old fashion salt.
Sprinkle it around the perimeter, that'll help, and it's safe for your 2 year old!
just plain and simple table salt. Throw some of it on the slug and it dies in seconds.
Order nematodes from sales@just-green.com....you cannot buy these in a shop as they have no shelf life, but delivery is really fast and they are 'magic'.
