How safe is my rabbit from cats?

how safe is my rabbit from cats if I leave him out in my garden just about to move house and there is a cat next door I noticed it in the garden of my new home when I visited todayHow safe is my rabbit from cats?
I woulds suggest a harmless method of preventing the cat coming in the garden such as putting orange peel on the fence or using a get off spray.

Your rabbit should be safe if he is kept in a secure enclosure but unfortunately rabbits are easily stressed which could cause ill health.

Maybe put the hutch inside the run and then only let him out on supervised playtimes. How safe is my rabbit from cats?
they probably will get along. unless the rabbit is small ,he can easily kick any sized cats butt, but my sister put her rabbit on the patio in the hunt camp and he left....or so she thought...now we have more rabbits than ever!
i would say your rabbit is not very safe...cats love hunting things like rabbits and mice, so i would get your rabbit out of there pronto.
Not sure, but I once found a cat in my rabbits hutch and it was cuddled up - the weather had been rough overnight and it had broken in to shelter. The rabbit seemed quite to see the cat go!
I had a 15lb tom cat one time and he could blitz any moggy in the street. The only time I've seen him come out 2nd best was against a neighbour's rabbit which had escaped into the bushes. I wouldn't worry. Likewise my current cat and his brother used to sit 2ft away from next doors lop-eared rabbit and just look and wonder at what a funny sort of ';cat'; it was.
I would say my best advice is to get your rabbit the heck outa there! My cats LOVE to catch wild rabbits even though it breaks my heart when they do. I think you shloud get one of those cages that are for outdoors that can fold up, and then when you let your rabbit out watch him/her carefully. Some cats don't pay much attention to rabbits, but some, like my cats, will actually hunt them down and eat them. Oh and look out for dogs too, though they should be on a leash. Good luck! :)
Don't know if this will be any help, but I have three house bunnies and three cats. My cats generally leave the rabbits alone. One cat tried to pounce my american Palimino who is about 12 pounds and was rewarded with a kick that sent him(cat) flying across the kitchen floor. This same bunny sleeps under my bed with our tabby every chance he gets. They seem to be the best of friends.

Now the same cat who had flying lessons tries to chase the two smaller dutch, and ends up being chased through the house. So it ends up being a game he chases them till they get tired of it then they turn around and chase him.

My oldest cat who is about 14yrs wants nothing to do with the rabbits and pretty much stays out of their way.

But I would never leave any of my rabbits out doors unattended. I'm much to afraid of the other preditors we have in the area. Including foxes, dogs and feral cats.
i wouldnt trust the other cat
I asked the same question a few months ago and then I was brave and now my rabbit is completely safe with my cats. They sun-bathe together and rub noses. ....But I wouldn't trust him with a strange cat.
I used to live opposite someone whose rabbit was more than capable of looking after itself - it kept the dog in its place and the other dogs on the block also knew not to mess with the bunny.
What do you mean?? Do you mean will the cat harm the rabbit? It just might, I wouldn't leave a rabbit unattended outside EVER. Its on the BOTTOM of the food chain you know. I have had bunnies that were indoor ones, I used to take them outside on a special leash that you can get at petsmart. Never let your bunny out of your site outside unless you don't want to see him again.
you rabbit wont be save unless 1 it is bonded with the cat or 2 it has ur supervision i had a cat come in my house and i got to the room just in time to see my rabbit hop up to the cat to play and i had the chase the cat out the problem is you rabbit might see the cat as something interesting and go up to the cat where the cat sees the rabbit as a play toy please dont leave ur rabbit unattended in the garden or perhaps invest in a good run for the garden that no cats or dogs can get in to good luck!
Not so safe, the cat can climb over the fence and attack it
Spoke to a girl at work, her cat brought a dead rabbit home, so I'd say not very safe.
It depends on the size of the cat. If its a lion or a leopard, youve got problems
Watch out for Foxes too.
Please get a secure run for your rabbit, made with wire mesh. Make sure it is the wire meld not chicken wire as foxes, cats and squirrels will be able to get into it. If your rabbit like to run round the garden, make sure it is supervised at all times. Even a quick trip to get the phone or go to the loo gives another animal oportunity to try for a meal or to play and maim. I volunteer at a large rescue and I have four bunnies myself, my cat loves to snuggle up with them but next door's cat sees them as local entertainment, she sits beside their run as if watching TV then will try to pounce on them. So best be safe and knowing your bunny is not going to get attacked, gives peace of mind.
hi , i have a large ( not a monster but large) bunny ..... she lives in our house with us but goes in and out of the garden freely ..... i have a dog and two cats ( bunny is about the same size as my cat) my bunny rules the roost and the garden ..... around us we have around 3 other cats that used to come into our garden and give my cats hell but since bunny has been the garden ruler we never see these cats in our garden ..... if your bunny is large enough to be able to fight off a cat i wouldnt worrie ( we go out all day and leave our out unattended if she doesnt want to come in) wild bunnys are very small and timid so id say it makes them easy prey , most well handled bunnys tend to be less scared of new things ...... you could try keeping bunny in for a while and scaring the cat from coming into the garden .... every time you see in it there run out making a noise to chase it off so it sees your garden as a non safe haven ..... id try leaving bunnys poop and things smelling of his/her urine outside so the smell becomes normal to the cat not something to investigate ..... in my opinion once your bunny is confident with the garden and sees it as his/hers own it will keep the cat out anyhow ( mine does and the birds )hope this might help
if your rabbit is in a run then it will be fine, cats soon lose interest, but if he is running around your garden free range then the rabbit may be at risk.
well i seen a cat taking a neighbours rabbit,

when we found it it was dead,

so not safe at all.
I'd be more worried about dogs, mind you, but here's my answer:

Probably quite safe. Cats are more for small rodents (mice, rats, ect.) and birds. They might keep a stern eye on your rabbit, but they will probably be okay.
